ACADEMICS

We are committed to providing an engaging, values-based education in a faith-filled, loving environment that nurtures creativity and innovation in our students and prepares them to bring a bright light of Christ to our world.  We follow the Archdiocese of Cincinnati Graded Course of Study for our academic programming along with courses in foreign language and STEM.

Archdiocese of Cincinnati Graded Course of Study

The Archdiocesan Graded Course of Study (GCS) is designed to drive the instructional programs at all Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. The GCS portrays standards of what all students are expected to know and be able to do by the time they leave their current grade. All Catholic schools follow the GCS, and demonstrate their compliance with the GCS as they receive their accreditation from the Ohio Catholic Schools Accreditation Association (OCSAA).

The GCS is organized by subject area for Preschool through Eighth Grade. The GCS incorporates emerging and best practice research about teaching and learning to ensure that our instructional programs are superior. The GCS also provides provisions for teaching students with special needs, accelerated programs, incorporating technology into instruction, and cross-curricular integration.

Foreign Language

In addition to the GCS, every child, Preschool through Eighth grade, receives instruction in Spanish and our fifth through eighth graders also receive French instruction. Our foreign language teacher, Mr. Babacar Fall is a West African native, bringing a multiethnic culture and fluency in seven (7) different languages to our students.

STEM classes for our fifth through eighth graders are also a part of our curriculum, with a heavy emphasis on robotics, design, and coding. Mr. Mark Garman, our STEM instructor, also serves as our Director of IT for the school.

Assessment Scores

Standardized test scores are one way to reflect the success of Piqua Catholic students.  Throughout their time at Piqua Catholic, students will be evaluated and progress monitored using the iReady program for ELA and Math, and the ARK Test for Religion.

We are very proud of our students' effort and commitment to their studies and our faculty's dedication to preparing them for success. Our students consistently rank above the national averages all core subjects.  Students taking the ARK Test, which ensure religious and faith knowledge, also score above state and national norms.
