While academics are a high priority at Piqua Catholic, we embrace the reality that children are persons of mind, body, and soul.It is vital to foster the holistic development of students, therefore we believe that athletics and physcial education are crucial. God created humans with bodies capable of both strength and dexterity so that they can perform a variety of physical tasks, whether it be shooting a basketball, running a mile, or helping a neighbor or friend who needs help moving a piece of furniture.
Participation in sports are linked to benefits in the classroom and beyond. Throwing a football or spiking a volleyball, for example, builds gross motor skills, but it also strengthens the ability to stay focused, work hard, and practice for mastery. These mental habits translate into our students' classroom performance. Likewise, the intense training and exercise required for physical excellence requires the development of character: diligence, perseverance, humility, and more. With the leadership of a coach, the encouragement of a unified team, and the inspiration of a worthy goal, our student athletes grow in maturity both on and off the field.
In 2013, Piqua Catholic School merged with St. Patrick’s in Troy, Ohio, as well as Holy Angels in Sidney, Ohio, to form
Lehman Jr. High Athletics. All sports are now combined at the Jr. High level. This gives the 7th and 8th graders the opportunity to form a strong relationship before entering their freshman year at Lehman Catholic High School in Sidney.
